Some leaders teach discipline. Jon Macaskill teaches something deeper: the skill of mastering attention, managing stress, and staying present when life asks the most of us.
A retired Navy SEAL Commander, devoted husband, and father of three, Jon spent 24 years in the United States Navy, 17 of them as a SEAL. Across that career, he learned how to operate under extreme pressure, make split-second decisions, and lead teams through uncertainty.
Yet even after mastering the demands of elite military operations, Jon ran into a challenge that many modern leaders quietly wrestle with: being physically present while mentally somewhere else entirely.
That realization became the foundation of his life’s work: helping people understand their own minds, sharpen their focus, and build a healthier relationship with pressure.
A Different Kind of Leadership Teacher
Jon didn’t come to mindfulness through a traditional wellness path. He came to it through experience.
After years inside high-stakes leadership environments, he began studying attention, mindfulness, and neuroscience to understand what actually happens in the brain when people feel overwhelmed, distracted, or burned out.
What he found reshaped how he thought about leadership.
Mindfulness, he realized, wasn’t about slowing down or stepping back from performance. It was about sharpening awareness, improving decision-making, strengthening emotional regulation, and leading more effectively under pressure.
Today, Jon brings that perspective to executives, teams, veterans, and everyday professionals who want practical tools that create real change without unnecessary complexity.
His approach blends military leadership experience, behavioral science, and mindfulness practice into something practical, measurable, and accessible.
Building Leaders Through Focus Now Training
As Co-Founder of Focus Now Training, Jon partners with organizations to help leaders and teams strengthen sustained attention, reduce stress, and perform at their best.
Through leadership programs, workshops, coaching, and keynote talks, Focus Now Training gives professionals mental fitness tools designed to sharpen clarity, strengthen decision-making, and improve wellbeing at work.
The mission is straightforward: help people stop running on empty and build the self-awareness needed to lead with confidence, focus, and resilience.
Jon’s core belief is simple: strong organizations are built by people who first learn to manage their own internal state before they try to lead anyone else’s.
Bringing Conversations About Mental Fitness to More People
Jon is also Co-Founder and Co-Host of Men Talking Mindfulness, a podcast built around honest conversations about mental health, personal growth, leadership, and emotional resilience.
For nearly six years, Jon and his co-host have created a space where hard topics get explored openly and practically — making mindfulness feel approachable to people who wouldn’t normally gravitate toward wellness conversations.
Through the podcast, his speaking engagements, and his writing, Jon keeps pushing back on the idea that mindfulness is only for a certain type of person.
His message: focus, awareness, and emotional strength are skills, and anyone can build them.
From the Battlefield to the Boardroom
Jon’s leadership philosophy rests on a simple belief that people are doing the best they can with the capacity they currently have, but they deserve better tools to work with.
He’s seen these practices land across very different communities: executives, business leaders, construction professionals, veterans, parents, and everyday people simply looking for more balance.
The shift usually starts small: a breath, a pause, a single moment of awareness.
Over time, those small moments compound, helping people become calmer, more intentional, and more genuinely connected to themselves and the people around them.
A Voice for Human-Centered Leadership
Beyond Focus Now Training, Jon continues to work as a leadership mentor, keynote speaker, and consultant through Macaskill Consulting.
He partners with organizations and individuals to strengthen leadership effectiveness, psychological safety, executive focus, and workplace culture.
His expertise has also carried him into roles as Adjunct Faculty with UVA Darden Executive Education & Lifelong Learning and as a consultant, content creator, and keynote speaker with Calm.
Across every platform, the message stays consistent: high performance doesn’t require sacrificing your humanity.
Redefining What Strength Looks Like
Jon Macaskill represents a new generation of leadership voices, leaders who understand that true strength isn’t only about endurance, achievement, or pushing harder.
It’s about awareness.
It’s about presence.
It’s about the ability to respond instead of simply react.
From leading Navy SEAL operations to helping today’s organizations build healthier cultures, Jon’s mission hasn’t changed: to help people focus better, lead stronger, and live more intentionally.
Because the greatest leadership advantage may not be doing more.
It may be learning how to truly be present for what matters most.
